It’s been a little more than a month since Kenny Hoyle’s part in the new TransWorld video And Now graced the silver screen at the tenth annual TransWorld SKATEboarding awards. We decided to catch up with Kenny to talk about his part, his take away, and his plans for the future. Coincidentally (per his recent interview in TransWorld), we called him mid-burrito at his favorite North County Mexican spot, Lolo’s in Carlsbad, California. So here he is, Kenny Hoyle, satiated on beans and rice, briefly discussing his performance in And Now.

Are you relieved to have the video done?

Yea, it was pretty stressful. There’s always tricks you want to do and you go to get them and you get them, but sometimes you don’t get them. If you don’t make them it’s not always easy to go back and get them. We would gradually look at the progress of the video and see how things were coming together and then figure out what other stuff we needed whether it was lines or single tricks. But those dudes never stressed on deadlines or anything. John and Chris are super easy to work with.

How was it working with Chris Ray?

Most of my stuff was with John, actually. John mostly filmed Richie, Trapasso, and me. Chris handled Matt Miller a lot and David Gravette.

Was it good working with John?

Hell yea! He’s awesome. John is an amazing dude.

Are you satisfied with the way your part came out?

I’m mostly psyched to have it done. When I look back on it I would have liked to have gone back and filmed a little bit more and get some of the things I wanted to get, but overall I’m definitely happy with it.

Are you critical of your skating?

Not really. I’m not super critical of my own skating, which I guess I should be more of. I’m not really critical of any skating. I just like to see skateboarding. The fact that I’m able to just skate and have people be like “whoa that was sick” makes me feel good.

How do you compare this to your part in the Kayo video?

I didn’t really think about it as much. With this video I knew that it was going to be nerve racking at the awards. I’ve been to the TransWorld awards before and I know that everyone is there and everyone comes up to you and says what’s up. It was a little bit stressful, but so far people seemed to have liked it.

What song did you skate to?

It was B.T.O. You know, Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Let it ride.

How did you pick it?

John actually showed it to me and showed me a couple other songs that he thought would be sick for my part. I didn’t really want to be the guy that picked the song and then have it suck. I don’t really care. I didn’t pick my song for It’s Official and I didn’t pick my song for the TransWorld video. I liked Let It Ride and John was really down for it too. It has a bunch of changes in the song and he thought it would be fun to edit to. Whatever he does is legit and he always makes everything look good. With Jon Holland you don’t really have to worry about much.

What are you working on right now?

Expedition is working on a video right now. Welsh has a bunch of shit and Channy and Kelly have a lot of stuff too. So I’m out filming a lot for the Expedition video right now.
