| Click "Play" Above for Brophy Video! 23-year-old Andrew Brophy just made the two-day journey from his home in the bush of Australia to the big city of Los Angeles, California. And we’re glad to have him here. The six-foot-four man-child has a lot going on. He just turned pro for Cliché, he’s got the last part in their new video, and we just drafted him up to the big leagues here at DVS. He lurks around the office quite a bit now that he’s local so we cornered him this week for a quick interview. Here’s what he’s got going on. What’s your new living situation? I’m living here in the states for three months. I just got a flat in Long Beach with my wife. It’s right above Tony Silva and his girlfriend. How’s being married? It’s good. I got married on the 8th of November last year. Did you honeymoon? Yea, we went to Bali. It was alright. Pretty average, but it was fun. Money is worth more there. How’s your new father in law? He likes to build hot rods and drink vodka. He builds old school Fords like Model T’s. But he keeps them raw and doesn’t make them look all wild and crazy. He’ll build them really nice with a good engine and chasse. Old school. Does he give you a hard time? Only when I don’t want to get drunk with him does he give me a hard time. Does he like skateboarding? Is he excited that his daughter married a skateboarder? He likes the idea of skateboarding. He thought I was a scumbag at first, but I think he likes me now. Are you going to try to stay in the states permanently? Yea, I’d like to stay her for a while. Do you have a VISA? Nope. How’s that? It sucks. How was the latest Fourstar trip? The MapQuest trip was really good. All those guys are really nice. What was your favorite stop? I can’t remember the names of all the stops. But Arizona was cool. We went to New Orleans too. That was pretty crazy. We got really drunk. Was it still torn apart from the hurricane? It wasn’t so bad. But driving into it you could see that all the trees had been uprooted and houses were destroyed. But downtown you couldn’t really tell. Who was your favorite dude on that trip? Carroll. How come? Cause he’s awesome. He cracks me up. How do you feel about your part in the Cliché video? I don’t know. I haven’t seen it yet. It’s going to premiere here in LA next week. So that will be your first time seeing it? I’ll be drunk. I might be asleep on the couch. I’ll let my wife tell me how it was. I’m going to hide for sure. Where was most of your footage filmed? Most of it was filmed in Melbourne. Who do you skate with in Long Beach? Benny, Tony, Raymond when he’s around, and Shier when he’s about. How high can you ollie? I ollied six beer crates in OZ one time. A dude told me he would give me all the beer in the crates as long as I kept olling them. So I told him to bring it on. I did six. I’m not sure how high it was. You said you live out in the Bush in Australia with your wife. What’s that like? Are there any dangerous animals out there? There are snakes and big, huge spiders. They scare the shit out of me. Sometimes you get in the shower and they’ll be one in there running around. How far away from a major city are you? I’m two hours from Brisbane. What do you do out there in the bush all day? I built a ledge and a flat bar at the local high school and I skate that a couple hours a day. Are you British or Australian? My mom was born in Liverpool. My dad was a convict and got shipped to Australia because it was a prison colony out there. Who do you skate with down in Aus? If I’m in Melbourne it’s Mike Martin, Lewis Marnell, and other Aussie dudes. Give us a rundown of your running regiment? My wife and I did it more in Melbourne because we lived close to the Botanical Gardens. We would walk up there and run about three and half kilometers a day. We’re just trying to stay fit. I don’t smoke cigs around the wife. How did you get hooked up with the guys from Cliché? It was when Link Footwear had just started. Link was out of Salomon and Addidas and they did it through Cliché cause Cliché is owned by Salomon. I met Brett Margaritas in Western Australia. I met him and I was moving to London to live with my brother. Cliché did a trip and I went to meet them in Leon with Al and Jereme. I got Boglio’s email, which was his fault. He shouldn’t have given it to me because I kept harassing him for boards. Who’s you favorite dude on the Cliché squad? All the dudes. They’re all awesome. How are the Gypsy Tours? They’re harsh. Camping is gnarly. If you don’t bring your own sleeping bags you get the dog blankets. We live off ten Euros a day. It’s pretty much spent on bread, cheese, tomatoes, and a bottle of wine. Do Jereme and Al go on them? Daclin goes. Al likes to sit back and watch. That’s all we got. Welcome to the team. Thanks. |
